Join the Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) team and use your skills to support a national nonprofit that works to provide clean water resources for all communities. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with 10+ years of accounting and contracts experience in the nonprofit world. This position will include working on a variety of accounting oversight and contracts review duties in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an individual that works efficiently; is detail-oriented and has the skills and ability to proof contracts and invoices; has excellent communication skills; has extensive experience in Quickbooks and Excel; and is able to put together budgets, spreadsheets, and invoices for various vendor types, including government grants and contracts.
This position is hybrid, mostly requiring remote work along with weekly, regular in-office time to participate in activities that require segregation of duty. The candidate should live in proximity to CWP’s main office in Fulton, MD and may be asked to come into the office for specific meetings as needed. Some example tasks include:
Reviewing and providing quality control for invoices, including complex ones such as invoices for multi-year projects with federal funding, multiple funding sources, and/or match requirements
Reviewing contracts and working with project managers, accounting staff, and directors to help reduce risk and ensure protection of CWP’s assets
Developing budgets, including the annual organizational budget, and providing accurate and detailed reports as need to track progress
Developing reports to help track strategic planning progress
Participate and eventually lead the implementation of a successful audit
Actively participate in the management of files in accordance with legal requirements and in partnership with the accounting team
Collect data and participate in financial decisions at a management level as requested and or needed.
Participating and eventually leading regular accounting meetings to discuss any and all issues that impact the organization financially
Learning BigTime and other programs that relate to financial accounting and making sure that they are functioning properly
The successful applicant will have federal grant experience and contract experience combined with an accounting or legal background.
This hybrid position requires periodic work from the main office in Fulton, Maryland with most of work performed at home.
Minimum bachelor’s in accounting, business management, project management, or other related field. Strong communication skills essential with a demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit accounting. Additional skills and experience needed for this position include:
Expertise with Quickbooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
720+ credit score
Ability to innovate and problemsolve.
Detail oriented individual with combined ability to see the big picture.
Experience in Big Time and Novi is a plus.
Experience with auditing, GAAP, and non-profit accounting.
