For an MD (or equivalent)
In addition to leading the didactic component of the training program, the DGE will play a vital role in the clinical realm. The DGE will assist the Genetics Consult Service, providing expert diagnosis and management recommendations for patients referred by other clinicians across the NIH. Furthermore, the DGE will actively engage with other clinical research groups throughout the NIH Clinical Center, offering educational workshops and consultations to enhance their understanding of genetic factors in various disease processes and empower them to confidently manage patients with potential genetic involvement.
For a PhD
Beyond expert diagnosis and management, the DGE will provide consultative services to other medical teams on the results of genetic tests. The DGE will engage with labs within NHGRI as well as other institutes and will work closely with clinicians, genetic counselors, and staff scientists to advance personalized medicine at NIH and beyond.
