 CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR (2ND Class Engineer), Facilities &#8211; Central Utilities Plant (CUP), is responsible for monitoring, operating and control of the CUP facilities from the distributed control system (DCS) and performs related duties throughout the facilities; ensures all CUP equipment is operated within design parameters and in full compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; conducts plant startups and shutdowns and participates in the review of problems, incidents, and unusual events; performs routine operational tests and adjustments, maintains accurate records and logs, conducts equipment switching and lockout/tagout procedures and operating plant systems to meet specified and IceTec parameters; monitors operations, optimizes performance, ensures emissions control compliance and keeps facilities clean and safe; and troubleshoots equipment failures, operates chillers, boilers, and other CUP equipment and trains Plant Operators in DCS operations. REQUIRED: 
 
 High School Diploma or equivalent 
 A minimum MA 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License and Driver&#8217;s License 
 A minimum of three years of operating experience in power generation or central utility plant; 
 Ability to move 50 pounds, move about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment and/or remain stationary for extended periods of time, and perform work on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations. 
 
 PREFERRED: 
 
 Hoisting 
 License 1C and Industrial Waste Treatment Grade 2 License. 
 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety related uniforms must be worn as required. 
 May work with hazardous materials. 
 Requires extended working hours which includes shift work including weekends, evenings and holidays. 
 May be required to perform call-in duty. 
 This position will be required to work a crossover shift. Employees assigned to a crossover shift may have schedule changed to cover other employees&#39; vacation periods. 
 
 WORKING CONDITIONS:  Working on feet for up to 16 hour periods. Work may be performed on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. PPE may include, but is not limited to: hard hats, safety shoes and glasses, dust masks, ear protection, protective suits and hot gloves. Must wear CUP issued safety rated uniforms. Work with hazardous materials may be required.

The&#xa0;position is comprised of seven technical divisions with a combined federal&#xa0;staffing of more than 103 employees, a portfolio of 166 projects, and annual obligations of over $81million, on average. 
 The Director for the Center for Infrastructure Systems and Technology provides executive leadership and strategic&#xa0;direction over programs by developing plans and policies ensuring that projects for sponsoring organizations are&#xa0;properly formulated, resourced, staffed, conducted, and managed to support and advance the strategic goals of&#xa0;the DOT and OST-R as they pertain to transportation infrastructure and technology. The Director oversees&#xa0;existing programs, develops new programs, and ensures technical excellence within the staff and programs of the&#xa0;Center.  Analysis and modeling of shifting global passenger and freights flows and their implications for the required maritime domain awareness, transportation and logistics infrastructure including consideration of safety and security. 
 Assessment, analysis and field testing of rapidly developing and advanced transportation technologies, such as connected and automated vehicles and applications of artificial intelligence. 
 Strategic analysis of transportation infrastructure research and potential partnerships within the transportation enterprise. 
 Program development and support around innovation, technology transfer, and attracting novel concepts to address transportation challenges. 
 National and international resource center of knowledge exchange on emerging and&#xa0;advanced transportation technologies. 
 
 Leads assessments of new and advancing technologies for applicability, integration, and deployment to meet&#xa0;emerging transportation needs, problems, and issues; and develops strategies to market those technologies to&#xa0;partners.
