The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Wichita State University is pleased to announce the search for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to start in August 2024 or on a mutually agreed date. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and are eager to contribute proactively to the inclusive hands-on learning environment that is a hallmark of our educational programs.
While applications from all areas of biomedical engineering will be considered, preference will be given to candidates with research emphasis in robotics or who complement departmental strengths in mechanobiology, biomechanics, biosensors, biomaterials, and translational biomedical engineering.
We are interested in outstanding candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship and to a diverse campus climate. Applicants whose technical interests complement and augment the Department’s existing strengths and are well positioned to develop collaborations as part of multidisciplinary research teams are of particular interest. Applicants must be committed to fostering an inclusive environment and promoting the success of underrepresented students. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in, or show exceptional promise for, high-quality research, teaching, and professional development. In addition, applicants must have a demonstrated record of interest in, and commitment to, the mentorship of students from first generation, underrepresented, and low-income populations. Teaching and service expectations will not exceed those of other faculty positions. A Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required at date of hire.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates who will bring diverse perspectives to the College, and who enjoy working side-by-side with students and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds. About a third of the students in the College and almost half of the students at the University are first-generation. More than 16,000 students attend Wichita State, and the 330-acre campus is an architectural showpiece that includes an outdoor sculpture collection containing 77 works. WSU is family friendly. Available to all faculty are educational benefits for spouses and dependents, same-sex spouse benefits, and family leave. Very important for new faculty, there are also provisions to pause tenure review if they become a parent. WSU is a recipient of an NSF ADVANCE Catalyst award to assess and create avenues for women and minority STEM faculty to achieve their career goals.
