We are seeking a full-time Design Support Engineer for the City’s In-House Design group. This position provides support to City Design Engineers with an emphasis on reviewing design plans, specifications and estimates from a constructability standpoint.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive constructability reviews of City of Bellevue Design Project Plans, Specifications, and Estimates
Maintain and update Unit Price Cost Database
Provide AutoCAD drafting support to design engineers including base mapping, design layout, traffic control plans, etc.
Provide guidance for design engineers on construction practices and phasing
Maintain the Department Drafting Standards and CAD Template
Provide field support as needed for potholing, utility locating, etc.
Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the Design Engineering Manager.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering, construction management or other related field.
Eight or more years of construction inspection, construction management, or transportation constructability plan review.
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods applicable to transportation construction projects.
Demonstrated skill in reading and interpreting technical standards, complex construction drawings, plans, permit conditions and specifications.
Demonstrated experience with reviewing plans, specifications and estimate from a construction perspective.
Demonstrated knowledge of construction staging.
Familiarity with putting together traffic control and detour plans
Thorough knowledge and familiarity with the following (but not limited to) engineering references and resources:
Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT), Standard Specifications for Roads, Bridge, and Municipal Construction
WSDOT Design Manual, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG) Manual, Standard Plans, and Plan Preparation Manual
Federal Guidelines for ADA Design
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.
Thorough knowledge of and experience with BlueBeam.
Knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018, or later preferred.
Flagger and Traffic Control Supervisor card preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) preferred.
Ability to work independently with little supervision and within a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other agency representatives, City officials and the general public.
