With over 1,200 miles of extensive and growing sanitary sewer infrastructure, Springfield has an award-winning wastewater collection and treatment system that is widely recognized as one of the most innovative wastewater utilities in the country. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining compliance with the City’s municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater permit and has one of the preeminent MS4 programs in the country.
