Professional Engineer - Environmental Services description imageThe City of Springfield’s Department of Environmental Services is seeking qualified applicants for Professional Engineers (with option to underfill as Engineer III) for positions in both the Sewer & Stormwater Engineering and Development division as well as the Sewer Maintenance division. The Sewer & Stormwater Engineering and Development group is primarily responsible for sewer extensions, service connections, and permitting to serve development and redevelopment projects within the community as well as stormwater initiatives to support the City’s MS4 permit compliance. The Sewer Maintenance division is primarily responsible for leading work groups focused on operations and maintenance of a system-wide network of flow metering and monitoring stations as well as the city’s Private Sewer Repair Program.

Environmental Services is responsible for protecting the quality of the water resources in and around Springfield.  With over 1,200 miles of extensive and growing sanitary sewer infrastructure, Springfield has an award-winning wastewater collection and treatment system that is widely recognized as one of the most innovative wastewater utilities in the country. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining compliance with the City’s municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater permit and has one of the preeminent MS4 programs in the country. Qualifications and Requirements


Professional Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline;
AND
  • Four years of experience in engineering work. 
  • Engineering experience must be commensurate with assigned specialty area required for current vacancy.

Engineer III (Underfill option): 
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline; 
AND
  • Three years progressively responsible engineering experience;
  • Must possess an Engineering Intern (EI) certificate from a State Board of registration for Professional Engineers within probationary period;
  • Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for the EI certification.
 
Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer's license;
  • Must possess MO license as issued by the Missouri State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment.
