Municipal Engineer / Department Head

An upper mid-west consultant engineering firm with 100+ employees is currently seeking a full-time Municipal Engineer with an emphasis in Water/Wastewater to join their growing municipal team.  In this position you will lead a group of five to seven engineers or technicians in all phases of municipal engineering for communities in South Dakota. This firm works closely with state, county, city, and tribal governments to plan, design, and construct rural and urban highways.  We seek highly motivated and experienced applicants!

What will you do?:

• Lead a department of 5-7 engineers or technicians in all phases of municipal engineering for communities in South Dakota
• Oversees the preparation of technical reports, plans and specifications, and engineering services during construction for new or existing water related projects
• Supervises support staff to analyze current infrastructure systems
• Performs problem solving, conceptual and preliminary design activities to include site visits, fieldwork, alternate analysis, and report preparation
• Acts as the department head
• Collaborates with several entities such as other engineering disciplines, planning districts and funding or other regulatory agencies
• Innovates and creatively designs detailed plans and specifications
• Performs construction administration and oversight activities to ensure adherence to contract requirements

What will you need to be successful?

•  10+ years of directly relevant experience in water-related municipal projects
• Must be a Registered Professional Engineer and obtain licensure in South Dakota within 6 months if not already licensed in the state
• Highly motivated
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Work well in a team environment
• Expected to maintain a high level of professional service to the Company's clients in an accurate and timely manner

What are the work conditions and schedule? 

• General professional business office conditions with normal office hours
• Location is negotiable if applicant is located in South Dakota
• May require some evening or weekend work
• Overnight stays may also be required
