The civil engineering industry is the largest user of raw materials and constructed assets account for approximately one-third of the world’s total carbon emissions. While this situation is unsustainable, society expects civil engineers to continue to provide the necessary conditions for a good quality of life. In the next decades, engineers must find new and innovative ways to design, manage, rehabilitate and strengthen civil infrastructure and buildings to meet societal needs in a changing world.
