Summary: 
Under general direction from the Board of Commissioners and direct supervision of the County Engineer, directs planning, designing and oversight of survey projects and project plans for the County transportation system in accordance with established surveying standards and state/federal/county policy.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position.  Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbents may be required to perform position-specific tasks other than those listed in this job description.
 

  • Oversee survey data collect and data studies related to transportation system planning and/or maintenance
  • Prepare and present reports of survey and engineering-related information for affected departments/agencies and County Commissioners
  • Prepare plan and profile sheets, estimates to assist in the development of specifications for transportation-related projects
  • Oversee and coordinate engineering/surveying plan review of development plats and plans submitted through the County Planning and Zoning Board and Building Department
  • Supervise the preparation of field data, field notes, log books, reports and other survey-related forms to comply with legal requirements and County procedures for project documentation
  • Supervise staff surveyors, survey technicians, and seasonal staff assigned to survey projects
  • Provide information and guidance to County departments, townships and political subdivisions regarding engineering standards, regulations and policies
  • Collaborate with County Highway Superintendent to prepare annual work plans, transportation program plans and progress reports
  • Maintain confidentiality of non-public records and make available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Education, Experience and License/Certifications:
 

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in surveying, engineering, or related field, or similar combination of experience and training
  • AND registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of ND (or the ability to obtain PLS registration within 6 months) 
  • Requires a valid North Dakota Drivers License or equivalent

 

Compensation: 

Compensation for this position is $38.00-$42.00 per hour depending on experience and training. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 11 paid holidays each year. 

 

All offers of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, background check and reference review.
