The City of San Leandro, CA is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to direct all aspects of engineering related to land development, survey and mapping services, public right-of-way encroachments, transportation planning and operations and traffic engineering. The successful candidate will be adept at reviewing plans and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering standards as well as develop plans to improve transportation system safety, capacity and to finance transportation improvements.
The Principal Engineer must be an innovative leader and experienced supervisor that can engage staff and cultivate an environment that fosters idea sharing, problem solving, and collective buy-in to improve processes and workflow. The ability to communicate effectively and create successful working relationships with others is essential. The ideal candidate will be comfortable speaking at public meetings as well as a proficient writer who excels at drafting clear and concise reports conveying technical information fluently to non-technical audiences. Experience negotiating Conditions of Approval with developers is a plus.
Education and Experience Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil, traffic and/or structural engineering or a closely-related field and five years of relevant professional civil or transportation engineering experience related to compliance with all applicable federal, state and local building codes and regulations including a minimum of three years of supervisory or project management experience. Master's degree is highly desired. Possession by date of hire and maintenance of Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Possession and maintenance of Certificate of Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer in the State of California is highly desired.
