The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. We seek an individual who will strengthen our research and educational programs in aerospace engineering. Candidates should be capable of teaching core aerospace engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate should have credentials in at least one of two areas of research:
(1) Flight Dynamics and Control: Dynamic behavior of aircraft and spacecraft, with emphasis on their design. Topics of interest include stability and control of innovative subsonic and supersonic aircraft concepts; system identification for the development of aircraft simulation models; and attitude dynamics, stabilization and trajectory optimization for spacecraft.
(2) Aeropropulsion: Aerodynamics of advanced propulsion concepts and their integration in next-generation aircraft, including aerial-mobility and supersonic/hypersonic vehicles, with emphasis on airbreathing, electric, and hybrid electric engines. Topics of interest include aerodynamic modeling, turbomachinery, aeroacoustics, combustion, and innovative power sources as they apply to the design of propulsion systems.
The position will be at the Assistant Professor rank. Applicants should have a doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline. The successful candidate will develop a vigorous externally funded research program, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and demonstrate the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity in their research area. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to contribute their leadership, collaboration, and innovative thinking toward an aerospace engineering program on the cutting edge of scholarship and impact, and engage in service to the university and to the engineering profession.
