What’s the Opportunity?
Engineering quality assurance construction inspector overseeing work on a 3-year sediment remediation project in Massena, New York. The construction inspector will report to a lead field engineer and be responsible for overseeing, inspecting, and documenting construction work performed by contractors to assess compliance with design requirements and QA/QC procedures. Work will mostly be performed in a field setting, with considerable outdoor work and work on marine vessels/platforms. Construction work is anticipated between March and November each year from 2019 to 2021. Work is anticipated up to 6 days per week. Work will require the employee to be stationed in the Massena, New York area during each construction season. During the offseason, the employee may remain in the Massena area or be stationed at one of our several office locations.
Engineering construction inspector will have the following responsibilities:
Reviewing and understanding project design documents, specifications, and drawings
Reporting to a lead field engineer
Observing and inspecting daily work by contractors to determine compliance with design requirements and project QA/QC procedures
Preparing detailed notes, documentation, and inspection reports for the work activities
Observing and coordinating sampling, testing, and surveys performed by others
Tracking and reporting progress of work performed by contractors
Recommending modifications to work procedures or corrective actions based on field conditions and work progress, in consultation with the lead field engineer
Complying with company and project health and safety requirements
Sampling of environmental media
Participating in meetings and calls, as necessary
Performing other responsibilities based on the final scope of work
What Are We Looking For?
Ideal candidates will have the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in civil or environmental engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Related experience on heavy construction or marine construction projects preferred
Working knowledge of construction-related procedures
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification (training will be provided as needed)
Ability to work in a field setting, outdoors, and on marine vessels/platforms
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work with word processing and spreadsheet software
