The B61-12 JTA PRT is executing the product realization of the Joint Test Assembly body to be used in the development, qualification and stockpile evaluation of the B61-12. The selected candidate will have a very unique opportunity to contribute to the development and evaluation of the first encrypted JTA telemetry system, the largest JTA data stream Sandia has deployed, and a system that will be used to evaluate the B61-12 stockpile for at least 20 years. Executing this job will include working in some of Sandia’s best test facilities, working in the very modern B61-12 assembly facility, working on the flight line with F-15, F-16 and B-2 aircraft, and interfacing with staff from LANL, KCNSC, Boeing, and the AF.
The successful candidate must have the ability to support moderate travel (10 trips/year). On any given day, this R&D Electrical Engineer on the JTA systems team may be called upon to:
lead JTA anomaly resolutions
develop the B61-12 system requirements for JTA test data management for tests at the Tonopah Test Range (TTR) and support the qualification of the TTR telemetry ground station
support planning and execution of JTA ground and flight tests including the operation of JTA ground station equipment
support analysis and distribution of JTA data sets
support flight line testing operations for JTA tests including keying encryption devices
Sandia has a large design and system integration responsibility for the life extension of the B61 bomb. To execute this responsibility, a number of different design departments have been established. These departments work closely with each other and with other agencies within the Nuclear Security Enterprise (e.g., NNSA, Kansas City Plant, Pantex Plant) and within the DoD (e.g., Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center) to execute the B61 LEP. The B61-12 Non-WR Systems Engineering department (2324) is responsible for the design, development and qualification of the B61-12 Joint Test Assembly, the B61-12 Trainers, the B61-12 Compatibility Test Units used to establish aircraft compatibility and the Air Force (AF) contracted Flight Bodies used by the AF for development and qualification of the B61-12 Tailkit Assembly (TKA). In addition to these hardware developments, the department is responsible for planning and development of the B6-12 surveillance program once the weapon enters the stockpile. The teams working in the department are small, agile, multi-disciplinary, and tight-knit. The work they conduct is dynamic and very unique.

Bachelor’s AND advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in electrical engineering or relevant engineering field; or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 4 years relevant electrical engineering experience.
