This is independent engineering work performing engineering analysis, planning, design, and management of engineering construction, maintenance, and operation projects, and serving as task manager within a major project.
Job duties include:
· Water Control / Data Management
Performs SJRWMD’s Water Control duties as backup to the Sr. Professional Engineer, including operating Ogee spillways, pump stations, overshot gates, and solar pumping systems; coordinating with peripheral staff or agencies as necessary; assembling / evaluating / tabulating / maintaining all necessary (provisional) data for Water Control duties and publications, from both internal and external sources; interfacing with appropriate staff for missing data when required; producing daily, weekly, and monthly reports for Internet displays; troubleshooting existing SCADA systems, and coordinating with WRI staff on transition of data sites from one platform to another.
· Project Management / Design Support
Serve as project manager to coordinate successful construction/maintenance/rehabilitation of water resource works, including levees, dams, and water control structures. Review of projects or systems designed by others, to insure final designs consider operational requirements for project.
· Field Inspections
Perform field inspections of District projects, and water control structures, including periodic inspections to ensure operational readiness, and developing deficiency list(s) for repairs.
· Operational Protocols
Prepare, review and maintain library of operational protocols / guideline documents, coordinating with staff and outside agencies, developing and/or reviewing of data and calculations by District staff, consultants or other agencies such as the Corps of Engineers.
· Emergency Management Representative
Interface self with senior management, technical program managers, project managers, communications staff, and the public, in support of State or Local Emergency Management activities, responses or drills, as they relate to District Water Control systems, expecting occasional, sometimes extensive (60-80 hr. work week), overtime during extreme (Hurricane-type) weather conditions.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering, and two years engineering experience directly related to the duties described above.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering can substitute for one year of the required experience.
A doctorate from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering can substitute for the required experience.
Base salary: $45,801.60

The St. Johns River Water Management District is responsible for managing groundwater and surface water resources in all or part of 18 counties in northeast and east?central Florida. Counties entirely in the district are Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Putnam,... Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia. Counties partially in the district are Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange and Osceola. District staff work from service centers in Palatka, Jacksonville, Maitland and Palm Bay.
