The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is an agency of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). Its mission is to stimulate the flow of waterborne commerce through the State of Maryland in a manner that provides economic benefit and homeland security to the citizens of the State of Maryland. As the public port authority in Baltimore, the MPA not only owns and operates marine terminals, but also interfaces with stakeholders across the entire public and private spectrum, including but not limited to: shipping lines, cargo interests, agents and forwarders, stevedores and terminal operating companies, the International Longshoreman Association, private terminals, federal agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and city, county and state governments. POSITION DUTIES: The Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is recruiting for the position of "Transportation Engineer V." This recruitment will fill a newly created position for "Design Project Manager" in the MPA's Engineering Division, focusing on civil and structural work. This professional level engineering position serves as project manager or team leader for multi-disciplined engineering and construction projects of varying levels of complexity, scope and fiscal implications. The Design Project Manager will manage, with minimal supervision, the development of contract documents (technical specifications and plans) for engineering and construction projects, and will perform detailed constructability and quality reviews of design document packages submitted by architectural and engineering (A&E) firms. Managing these projects will be accomplished by leading a design team consisting of contracted A&E design consultants from the early concept stages of a project through the awarding of contracts. The manager will continually coordinate throughout a project's design phase with the appropriate MPA departments and the respective A&E firm's design team to clarify or refine project scopes due to budget restrictions, management recommendations, construction deadlines and/or project feasibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university. ** Experience: Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering. This experience must be in the areas of civil and/or structural engineering and include employment in the engineering profession, as either a civil or structural design engineer with experience creating, reviewing and correcting design plans and specifications. ** This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability). The ideal candidate will have: Experience in civil or structural engineering within the last five years. Supervisory experience or oversight of consultants related to the above. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a State with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
