The Suffolk County Water Authority is seeking a Distribution Engineering Manager for our Construction Maintenance department, Oakdale, NY. This person will be a NYS registered Professional Engineer responsible for the daily operation of the Construction and Maintenance Distribution Engineering group.
Provides supervision and technical support to the Distribution Engineering Supervisor, Drafting Supervisor, Asst. Engineer, and Systems Coordinator, to ensure pipeline projects are properly executed and prioritized for timely completion.
Ensures technical accuracy of all engineered documents. Prepares and reviews construction plans, contracts & permits; signs and seals drawings and contracts used for publicly bid water main projects.
Works with Director, Deputy Director and staff, to develop a comprehensive asset management program for underground, linear assets.
Directs staff performing hydraulic modeling and research related to water main break causes and prevention, water main life extension and asset management.
Evaluates equipment, materials, new products, and new technology to improve system performance and reliability.
Ensures training and development of staff; evaluates employee performance along with enforcing company policy.
Minimum of 8 years experience in the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems, including 3 years supervisory experience.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) required.
NYS Professional Engineers License (P.E.) required.
Knowledge of the NYS sanitary code as it relates to pipeline design, construction and operation.
Experience in all phases of the design and construction of water mains and appurtenances, hydraulic modeling, and maintenance of water distribution systems.
Knowledge of GIS based information systems required.
Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with personnel from various Authority departments on a variety of water supply and distribution projects.
