The Village of Cary, IL (18,271), a northwest suburb of Chicago, is seeking interested candidates for a full-time Engineering/GIS Internship. This position will primarily work with the Public Works Department but may have an opportunity to assist senior management personnel across the organization. The candidate must have excellent oral/written communication skills and ability to exercise sound judgment is required. Desired traits and skills include self-motivation, reliability, customer service, patience, critical thinking, strong computer skills, and problem-solving. Experience using esri ArcGIS software and/or field data collection equipment is desired.
Collect field data utilizing a mobile GPS data collection system and update the Village’s GIS utilizing esri ArcGIS software
Provides administrative support on various special projects, programs and/or services
Provides courteous and responsive customer service to residents and businesses in person, via phone, and in written correspondence
Attends and participates in various community outreach initiatives, including the Public Works Department display at the annual National Night Out event
May research and prepare bid documents for public works projects
Provide data entry for various public works systems including work orders, service requests, energy use logs, and performance measurement reports
Ideal candidate will be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field. Candidate must possess strong customer service and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel. GIS experience is highly desirable with flexibility in working both independently and as part of a team.
