This position will manage and perform geotechnical and field services projects for F&R Clients. Professional services will be provided on a wide variety of private and public sector projects including, but not limited to: buildings, bridges, roadways and pavements, retaining and shoring structures, storage tanks and dams.
Tasks may include but are not limited to:
Oversight of and or performing geotechnical projects (field reconnaissance, field logging and managing drilling program for variety of projects, review test results, perform geotechnical engineering calculations, preparation of soil reports and proposals and various geotechnical engineering tasks, among others) undertaken by the Charlotte and Greenville offices.
Project management of construction materials testing and special inspection projects addressing building materials such as soils, asphalt, and concrete.
Analyzing, preparing and reviewing test results, geotechnical engineering calculations and soil and subsurface investigation reports.
Coordinating or directing project budgets, record keeping, materials testing, and inspections.
Supervising and directing engineering technicians, special inspectors and subcontractors.
Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria during the performance of engineering services.
Work with staff of engineers, technicians, and admin personnel to provide service. Satisfy multiple and unrelated deadlines.
Preparing and reviewing proposals, reports, and contracts as well as managing departmental financials.
Work may also includeperforming field testing and site visits.
Field work will include testing soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials at locations across our service area.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technologies, or a related field.
E.I.T. or PE registration preferred.
5-10 years of geotechnical engineering/construction materials inspection and testing experience preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills along with the ability to work in a team environment.
Working knowledge of the Valley and Ridge and Piedmont provinces is preferred.
Strong project or task management skills, including scheduling, execution and follow-up.
Must be able to communicate effectively, internally and externally, and demonstrate the ability to produce and review written reports for clients and senior staff.
Exhibits understanding of the engineering service industry. Knowledge of the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg markets is preferred.
