The position: VDOT is seeking a highly qualified, senior level executive with proven experience in managing the full scope of a large scale transportation construction and maintenance program. As part of an engineering focused organization, you will have a key role in building partnerships with various levels of government, elected officials, non-profit and private sector groups, the media and employees to better serve the public in meeting current and future transportation needs. This position is based in Colonial Heights with oversight for VDOT’s Richmond District which consists of 14 counties (Amelia, Brunswick, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan and Prince George), four cities (Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond) and 15 towns. The district is responsible for approximately 18,000 miles of road in Central Virginia making it VDOT’s largest roadway network for a District. Approximately 880 employees work within the Richmond District which includes 4 Residency Offices and 27 Area Headquarters. The Richmond District has geographically located within it road and bridge toll facilities and is home to two Metropolitan Planning Organizations. With a $450 million construction and maintenance program, the Richmond District is at the heart of the Commonwealth representing both urban and rural environments.
