ABOUT THE POSITION
City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full time Engineer I. The Engineer I will assist in the review and processing of land development projects, review plans for conformance to City standards and policies, review or coordinate with City consultants in the review of stormwater management plans, prepare City plan check comments, review construction material submittals, coordinate with developers and construction inspectors, track project review and approval schedules, coordinate with City master plan utility consultants.The goal of the Public Works Department/Engineering Division is to promote a better quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the city of Gilroy through the provision of efficient engineering services and the creation of orderly growth and development within the city. Design and construct high quality and sustainable transportation, utilities, public facilities, and park infrastructure and provide for quality maintenance operations supporting the community's health and safety through the operation of the city's water, waste water, streets and landscaping divisions in accordance with state and federal statutes and best practices.
Under direct supervision of the Senior Civil Engineer, performs professional or sub professional engineering work in the field and office involving the design, investigation, development and construction of a wide variety of public works facilities, and engineering projects.
The ideal candidate will:
Possess an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued by the State of California at time of application.
Have the ability to assist produce clear and concise written correspondence/documents.
Have interpersonal skills that allow free flowing and creative communication to understand and resolve the issues of all levels of stake holders.
Have experience with analysis of traffic impact studies, development reviews, technical studies and specifications related to transportation.
Have experience implementing mitigation measures, including traffic signal design.
Have knowledge of complete streets analysis, bicycle project planning and engineering.
Have experience reading plans and specifications; capital project delivery; application of traffic calming, neighborhood design, signal warrants, and related transportation engineering.
Have the ability to apply for and capture State and Federal grant monies for funding large projects.
Have strong time management skills to effectively manage workload
Have a strong attention to detail.
Have awesome customer service skills coupled with a sincere desire to provide service to the community.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and one year of responsible civil engineering experience or a related internship (paid or unpaid).
Possess an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate or obtain certification issued by the State of California within one year or before end of probation period whichever occurs first. (Note: Preference may be given to candidates who already possess the CA EIT certification)
Willing to continue education and training, expand skills, attend seminars, workshops, and commit to individual study.
Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and a safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s).
Pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a drug test.
Pass a background check which includes a Department of Justice criminal record check for employment.
