Additional Details: This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare design and contract plans for complex traffic signals and illumination systems.
Gather background information for use during the design process.
Participate on region project teams to ensure proper direction of project from scoping to construction.
Prepare detailed engineering estimates and specifications for complex traffic signal and illumination and projects.
Review material submittals and change orders on project under construction.
Provide support in construction for designs.
Prepare design and contract plans for other traffic designs such as striping, signing, temporary traffic control, variable message sign installations, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects.
Review consultant and local agency plans and special provisions for signal and illumination projects as well as striping, signing, temporary traffic control and ITS projects.
Recommend corrections or changes according to ODOT practices, policies, and standards and recommend approval.
Assist in assigning work and training employees in entry level engineering positions and mentor new traffic designers.
Desired Attributes/Application Scoring Criteria: In addition to your related work experience and education, we will use the attributes below to determine whom to interview. You are not required to have all of these attributes, but please make sure that the ones you do have are clearly demonstrated in your application materials. Your application materials may be graded on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and presentation.
Degree in civil, traffic, or electrical engineering.
Experience in traffic or roadway design.
Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
Experience in computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software with preference given for experience using MicroStation.
Work is performed primarily in a typical office environment with occasional field work required.
Field work outdoors may involve working in inclement weather and in heavy traffic conditions.
Regional travel occasionally required.
May occasionally drive state passenger vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications: A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, electrical, or transportation-related engineering.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
Special Qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
