Professional Engineer position that provides engineering services and makes engineering decisions for a work unit that support the success of one or more of the District’s strategic programs and/or major projects of moderate scope with complex features. Engineering services and decisions are made based on a comprehensive knowledge and consistent application of theories, precepts, concepts, and practices related to a specific discipline. This position is primarily responsible for applying engineering knowledge into the measurements, QA/QC, analysis, and reporting of hydrometeorologic data in support of District’s regulatory, planning and ecosystem restoration programs, and numerous external hydrometeorologic data and technical support needs. This position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of the structures, pump stations, canals and levees which encompass the District’s data collection network. Incumbent should be knowledgeable in identifying common problems associated with time-series data acquisition and the ability to recognize and resolve ambiguity in time-series data resulting from sensor limitation; archiving and extracting data from hydrologic databases. Performs hydrologic mass balance analyses, temporal and spatial statistical analyses of hydrometeorologic data. Evaluates hydrometeorologic parameter measurements and identifies sources of error in the data. Applies statistical techniques to estimate missing data. Summarizes and documents work through reports, fact sheets and presentations. The incumbent would participate in different data quality improvement initiatives, including (i) reviewing procedures to limit data anomalies resulting from operation of the instrumentation and monitoring facilities, (ii) developing business rules or validators as part of the “Real Time Anomaly Detection” initiative, (iii) evaluating rainfall data using the National Weather Service Weather Surveillance Radar 1988 Doppler data. Furthermore, the incumbent will work with different groups, including Data Processing, SCADA maintenance, H&H Hydraulic Design, and Survey & Mapping, to identify and resolve data quality issues.
Employment Guidelines: Staff Engineer: Typically has a Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline.
Licenses: State of Florida Professional Engineer license and keeps licensure status current, or if PE from another state, must become licensed by endorsement within six months from date of hire.
Engineering Specialist 4: Typically has a Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years’ experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline.
Licenses: Incumbent begins the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and receiving Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation. Employee begins to accumulate acceptable experience to meet work time licensure requirements.
Valid State of Florida driver’s license required.
