The Light Rail Vehicle Superintendent will lead the manufacturing and introduction of new light rail and streetcar fleet, with more than 80 vehicles being deployed across the next 5 – 7 years. In addition to new fleet, the LRV Superintendent will have the opportunity to spearhead the overhaul program for the existing 50-car rail fleet. The Superintendent Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance is responsible for directing, planning, and implementing the maintenance and repair of the LRV. Typical duties include: managing vehicle configuration through the modification approval process and updating maintenance procedures to reflect vehicle system changes; coordinating with Capital and Service Development, providing specifications, training and procedural requirements of new equipment and service contracts; ensuring the operational efficiency and work quality of Valley Metro's maintenance, preventative maintenance inspections, and repair for all LRV equipment; developing and implementing policies and procedures; managing staff and resources; establishing standards and coordinating work activities with consultants/contractors; managing LRV spare parts inventory and supplies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree or technical school certification with major course work in a closely related field. Eight (8) years' progressively responsible experience in light or heavy rail vehicle maintenance, transportation, or transit operations, including at least five (5) years of supervisory/management experience; OR , any combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities that demonstrate the capacity to successfully complete the job duties listed above. Highly Desired Experience: •Strong leadership and communication skills both written and oral •Experience in project management •Light Rail Vehicle maintenance experience •Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites •Experience in public transportation Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check. - Provides leadership and guidance for LRV maintenance program in Operations and Maintenance; develops and monitors methods for providing support to Operations and Maintenance.
- Establishes and directs preventative maintenance policies and procedures in order to provide a safe, reliable, clean and efficient system; develops recovery strategies.
- Oversees safety, quality assurance, and rail vehicle preventative maintenance programs and schedules including production and equipment upgrades.
- Directs and monitors LRV projects and conducts contractor performance reviews, assists with coordination of contractual maintenance activities.
- Directs the activities of the department, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
- Manages departmental goals, establishes appropriate services, staffing levels, and resource allocations.
- Develops a departmental budget; monitors and forecasts expenditures; recommends purchases of equipment; solicits and evaluates bids.
- Serves as a liaison with internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, the general public, and/or other interested parties.
- Familiar with and manages the processes related to warehousing and purchasing; requisitions; purchase orders, invoices, incoming material inspections and material returns.
- Participates in monthly meetings for; Safety and Security, Materials Review Board and Failure Review Board.
