The Transportation Operations Department's Traffic team is seeking a Graduate Engineer to support Hennepin County's transportation safety and operations initiatives. This position is located at the Public Works Facility, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340. There is no public transportation to this facility. This posting will remain open until filled and may be used to fill future limited-duration and full-time positions.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Support of the county's new Advanced Transportation Management System.
Develop, implement and validate optimized signal timing plans.
Engage residents regarding traffic operations and safety concerns.
Provide technical support on operations and safety projects.
Participate on the county's internal plat and safety operations review committees.
Obtain data used to develop coordinated or isolated signal timing plans.
Prepare and present traffic related memos and reports to leadership.
Best Qualified Candidates will have:
Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering.
Registration as an Engineer in Training with a State Board of Registration or the ability to acquire registration within six months of hire.
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or hold Professional Engineer licensure with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID).
Traffic signal systems or central traffic control systems.
Traffic signal timing and coordinated signal systems.
Synchro/SimTraffic signal timing software, Highway Capacity Software, Aries, or similar software programs.
Traffic signals, roadway signing, and pavement marking plans.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county, federal, state, and municipal staff, public officials, and the general public.
Coordinate work with county and contract staff for successful project completion.
Communicate and present technical and sensitive information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
