This position is self-directed and is responsible for Molding Project Leadership to the Engineering department. Supervises and directs Molding Engineering activities of the exempt engineering staff and hourly associates.
Leads major engineering projects including project planning, design and coordinate the development and implementation of plastic molding processes and related quality/engineering activities to support new product development activities.
The position provides technical support to molding operations and support trouble-shooting with existing molds or continuous improvement efforts. Supervision of exempt and non-exempt molding technical staff and accountable for the performance and results of the Molding Engineering group. Plan, implement and coordinate new process development activities related to molds and tooling, as well as changes to the existing molds if applicable. Includes assessing and determining needs; such as: shrinkage, draft angles, tolerances, material needs, etc.
Coordinate the development of new processes and/or new materials by interfacing with personnel from R&D, technology, product design, product development, quality, production, and manufacturing and assembly and packaging technology.
Specify equipment, tooling and fixtures for new processes, or existing process changes. Oversee project to install or change mold related equipment as assigned by manager.
Manage the post-validation process with new tools by solving any issues that arise related to quality or cost of the molding tool.
Coordinate and carry out qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
Coordinate and communicate assigned projects and their status with the appropriate personnel and departments.
Specify equipment, tooling and fixtures for new processes, or existing process changes.
Write capital expenditure requests for equipment, tooling and fixtures, as needed. Install new equipment, tooling and fixtures to support new product development. Responsible for documentation and training.
Represents BD when talking with suppliers. Defines BD agenda, carries out negotiations and is the technical voice for the company.
Defines equipment requirements and specification for new products.
Develop and implement processes for pilot production and scale-up programs.
Supervise technicians as required, to complete assigned projects.
Lead Projects as assigned.
Be a leader, coach, team builder to the employees that interact with him/her. Builds networks and stakeholders in those non-direct reporting employees who support and enhance the continuous improvement of the manufacturing unit.
In own field of scientific/engineering competence, maintain up-to-date familiarity with developments through attendance at professional meetings, literature and consultations. New technology sensing in the industry.
Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, procedures.
