We seek to hire Transportation Engineer EIT in our Raleigh, NC office who will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of the transportation engineering projects while working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Engineer (PE). Typical responsibilities include tasks associated with designing a roadway and other associated infrastructure components. This person will work in stand-alone and multi-discipline design teams supervised by senior engineers and project managers on projects of small to medium scope.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Performing various aspects of Transportation design as directed by a Transportation Engineer or Senior Transportation Engineer including analysis and design involving interstates and interchanges, urban roadways and bridges, site grading, storm water management, erosion control, and site plan preparation, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed
Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the Transportation design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines
Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as directed
Performing Transportation services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed
Performing Transportation services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed
Complying with quality control policies and procedures
Learn and implement department and company standards
Develop analysis and design skills
Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
Researching standards and specifications based on project requirements
Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Senior Transportation Engineers, Project Managers and Design Managers
Working with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects
Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Perform Transportation Engineer or Senior Transportation Engineer tasks as directed
Responsible for document organization and clarity
Responsible for discipline drawing coordination
Completing sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the Transportation Engineer
Creating schematic-level layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexity
Creating schematic level roadway layout and grading plans
Development of manual calculations and analytical models for transportation analysis and design purposes
Participate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in GeoPak and/or Civil 3D
Adhere to project budget and schedule
May require domestic and foreign travel
Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:
Civil and Environmental Engineering
Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering
Civil Engineering Technology
Post-graduate degree in Transportation Engineering or Transportation Engineering-related degree may be given additional consideration
Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations
Must have earned the designation of EI or EIT in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction or in a state that has reciprocity with the local jurisdiction
Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired.
Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable
Active membership in ITE, VASITE, ASHE, NSPE, ASCE or other related professional organizations is desirable
A Transportation Engineer EIT should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.
Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.
Up to 6 years of specific, post-graduation, transportation engineering experience that includes experience with designing a roadway and associated infrastructure; development of manual calculations and analytical models for transportation analysis and design purposes; development of construction documents (drawings and specifications), coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
