WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of hyperpure polycrystalline silicon for the photovoltaics, solar and semiconductor industries. At our Charleston, TN site, we are currently looking for a Plant Engineer EI&C - Poly.
The Plant Engineer EI&C reports to Sr. Manager Plant Engineering. This position will provide technical support and engineering services in the field of electrical engineering, instrumentation, automation and controls (EI&C) as necessary to provide for safe operations, regulatory compliance and maximum availability of production units and/or infrastructure and utility systems.
Your Tasks • Manage and/or support capital invest and expense type projects within area of responsibility • Coordinate 3rd party service providers • Consult and support capital projects executed by project engineering • Support the Manager Plant Engineering Process & Facilities in providing for safe operating conditions, regulatory compliance, availability and performance of production units • Support availability of production units at required capacity and quality • Support process and technology transfer/exchange between WACKER's Polysilicon production sites • Conduct and/or coordinate debottlenecking activities • Conduct and/or coordinate troubleshooting activities • Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality and cost • Develop and/or support development of specifications, standards and codes • Work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams • Represent WACKER's interests towards suppliers and contractors • Compile and provide reports related to area of responsibility • Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Operations and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results/solutions from a corporate/enterprise perspective • Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance to WACKER's policies and procedures • Other tasks and duties as assigned
Your Profile Education and Experience: • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation or Controls Engineering; or equivalent / related education • 3+ years of combined professional experience in the field of plant engineering and maintenance preferred or university graduate with relevant coop/internship experience • Thorough technical knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, instrumentation and controls (EI&C) including relevant regulations, standards and codes • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and construction practices • Objective judgment and fact-based decision making approach • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Able to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams • Able to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements • Strong multitasking competency • Able to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure • Team player attitude • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time required
Work Environment and Physical Demands: • Plant engineering activities are performed mainly in an office environment but also require presence in the field (manufacturing plant and/or construction site) • Must be able to pass a pulmonary function test to be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator, if required • Location for this position is the WACKER Polysilicon site in Charleston, TN. However, business travel to WACKER's site in Burghausen, Germany and/or to other WACKER US sites may be required if deemed necessary to become familiar with project specifics, WACKER tools and processes and to integrate with the WACKER team • Business travel may also be required to meet with vendors and suppliers as needed • Due to schedule and milestone requirements nonstandard work schedule such as nights, holidays and/or weekends may be required • Must be able to climb 10 flights of stairs • Must be able to walk out to the production building multiple times each day if needed
