The Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position with an Extension (75%) and research (25%) appointment in Poultry Engineering. This position may be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor. The individual selected will be expected to develop a robust Extension/research program in engineering outreach/technology assistance and application that will be supported by the poultry industry and attract extramural funding. Potential Extension/research foci could include, but are not limited to, remote sensing, automation, robotics, nanotechnology, or other technologies to promote performance and bird welfare in live production or improve efficiencies and sustainability in poultry processing and further processing. The successful applicant must develop a strong graduate training program and participate in departmental teaching activities within their area of expertise. Additional duties include Extension youth activities, undergraduate and graduate student mentorship, and student recruitment. The University of Georgia (www.uga.edu) is a land/sea grant institution located 90 miles northeast of Atlanta with excellent opportunities for collaboration with faculty who have diverse research interests. The Department of Poultry Science has exceptional research and live bird facilities, including a hatchery, feed mill, and pilot-scale poultry processing facility that includes slaughter, evisceration, further-processing, cooking and packaging equipment. Excellent opportunities for collaboration exist within the department and across the University of Georgia with units such as engineering, ecology, forestry, and veterinary and biomedical sciences, as well as local USDA and EPA scientists.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Engineering no later than December 2017. Candidates with a demonstrated record (1 or more years) of extramural grant success, collaborative research/outreach, and student mentorship are preferred.
